For this homework I chose to imitate J.C. Leyendecker's style. I used heavy line work, bright highlights and defined brush strokes.
I choose the L/Rectangle composition type.

This was a challenging but fun assignment. I decided to provide progress shots and show my process. I did not want to trace the shapes or use the color picker to challenge myself to get it as close as possible by eye. I used solid color layers with masks for each separate object. Then I worked on the greyscale first, to get the values right. After that, I used my solid color layers to set the base color, put shadow on "multiply" and highlights on "screen". At the end, I added just a slight amount of color dodge on some areas.

I thought this would look better with a dark background. Since it was hard to see the shapes, I added a strong rim light and a slight gradient to the background.
I decided to redesign Link as a viking. I wanted to keep the shape of his classic hat so I created a big braid to simulate that. I played around with different viking-era weapons and clothing. This was a fun practice and I used it to explore some dynamic poses.
Basic shapes assignment. This was a fun exercise, it was a good opportunity for me to brush up on some anatomy and play with shapes. I naturally draw with sharp angles, so the round shape was more challenging for me.
